Okay so with that one dude saying it's going straight to DVD via Voltage Pictures, I emailed the PRESIDENT of Voltage Picture's to see if I'd get a response. Here's what I got out of him.

My name is terrell, and I'm a huge Hilary Duff fan. I was just inquiring about her film "Greta", a rumor is circulating that the film will skip a theatrical run, and be released straight to DVD. The fan community is sort of in an uproar about this because they feel it could be a great film and should certainly have a theatrical release. I just wanted to know if it was true or not? Will it be released straight to DVD?

Okay, I did some research!

Apparently, Anchor Bay Entertainment is a film distributor owned by Starz Home Ent. They specialize in independent film distribution in Home Entertainment. HOWEVER I also found this press release:

BURBANK, Calif., Oct. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Anchor Bay Entertainment, a worldwide leader in the home entertainment industry, is forming a new theatrical film division, Anchor Bay Films, Anchor Bay Entertainment CEO Chris McGurk announced today. The new division plans to release 8 - 10 films annually and will be headed by Anchor Bay Entertainment President Bill Clark. The expansion into theatrical distribution and establishment of a releasing label marks a natural growth for the company given the broad range of distribution opportunities it can offer filmmakers.

"While many entertainment companies are now dissolving or scaling back their independent film divisions and the independent video industry is experiencing major consolidation, Anchor Bay Entertainment has continued to expand," commented McGurk. "Our company has distribution capability across all platforms -- DVD, premium pay TV thru Starz and now theatrical. Anchor Bay Films can now provide the high quality, fully integrated distribution platform that independent filmmakers are seeking to maximize exposure for their films."



SO what I'm guessing is, the "Greta" producers are getting distribution by Anchor Bay films for a theatrical AND home video release afterwards.

^^by "expansion" hpefully they mean a wider-release than most independent films get.

That is they're reasoning for creating a theatrical film division. They want to increase productivity and have a more familiar staple name-wise while giving indie films a greater chance at being successful and known.

Anchor Bay? Something tells me Greta will follow in What Goes Up's steps.

Very limited theatrical release and on dvd very quickly.
